Trama
La teoria dell'evoluzionismo di Darwin e la chiusura dogmatica di un paesino statunitense sono le principali cause del processo e dell'incarcerazione del professor Bertram Cates, il quale viene sollecitato dai propri studenti a spiegar loro le dinamiche dell'evoluzione secondo il celebre biologo. La vicenda si trasferisce poi in tribunale dove un famoso procuratore e un grande avvocato difensore si sfidano all'ultima arringa.
