Trama
Rivelatosi già tre anni prima a un mondo abitato da metaumani, Superman è intervenuto in un conflitto armato tra due nazioni, per fermare un massacro. Questo ha dato vita a un incidente geopolitico complesso: la nazione da lui ostacolata è storicamente alleata degli Stati Uniti, di cui Superman è cittadino. Un metaumano proveniente da quella nazione arriva così a Metropolis e sconfigge Superman. Volato al sicuro in Antartide, Superman chiama in soccorso il supercane Krypto che lo trascina al sicuro nella Fortezza della Solitudine. Nel frattempo, Lex Luthor, coinvolto anche nella guerra dove Superman è intervenuto, porta avanti un insidioso piano per scoprire i segreti della sua nemesi, screditarne l'immagine e avere finalmente l'autorizzazione del governo per eliminarlo.
