Vincitore di 4 Oscar e di 4 Golden Globe nel 1977 - altri 11 premi e 19 nomination.Howard Beale è un commentatore televisivo con un larghissimo seguito; il suo indice di gradimento però è in discesa e i suoi capi decidono di licenziarlo. Howard allora dichiara davanti alle telecamere che si ucciderà: da quel momento ha un successo strepitoso, specie da quando, credendosi direttamente in contatto con Dio, diventa una sorta di profeta trascinatore.
