Trama
Nel 2009 il capitano Richard Phillips lascia la sua famiglia nel Vermont per guidare la nave porta container USA Maersk Alabama dall'altra parte del mondo. In acque extraterritoriali, il suo bastimento viene però attaccato da un manipolo di pirati somali, armati e pronti a tutto, e Phillips viene rapito, in cerca di riscatto.
