Trama
Pat Garrett e Billy Kid sono stati a lungo compagni di scorrerie. A un certo punto Garrett ha scelto però di passare dall'altra parte della barricata ("Il paese invecchia e io voglio invecchiare con lui", dice), e accetta il mandato di sceriffo offertogli dai coloni vessati dalla scorribande di Billy. Pur di non scontrarsi con l'amico, Pat offre a Billy la possibilità di salvarsi andandosene in Messico, ma l'invito cade nel vuoto.
