Trama
Il re d'Inghilterra, Enrico II, in occasione del Natale 1183 riunisce al castello i familiari per decidere chi tra i suoi tre figli gli succederà al trono. Egli propenderebbe per il minore, ma sua moglie è contraria. Fallito un intrigo ai suoi danni, il sovrano vorrebbe divorziare e risposarsi con l'amante per generare l'erede, ma non ha il coraggio di uccidere gli altri figli. La decisione sulla successione viene rimandata all'anno seguente...
