Trama
Siamo in un lager giapponese. Il tenente Grey, responsabile inglese dell'andamento del campo, si accanisce contro il trafficone caporale King, americano; questi ha come valido compare un altro inglese, Marlowe. La scoperta di una radio clandestina fa precipitare la situazione, ma giunge la notizia che la guerra è finita. King si appresta al rientro dopo aver troncato ogni rapporto anche con Marlowe. La guerra è una riserva di umanità allo sbando: uomini costretti a volte ad allacciare amicizie tanto forti quanto senza futuro. L'odio, al contrario, supera ogni imprevisto.
