Trama
Nel 1642 re Carlo I Stuart sta occupando militarmente il parlamento inglese che gli ha rifiutato la concessione di fondi necessari per la guerra contro la Scozia. È la classica scintilla che fa scoppiare la guerra civile che vede, da un parte schierato l'esercito fedele al re e quello allestito frettolosamente dai sostenitori del parlamento. Dopo l'esito incerto dei primi scontri, l'armata parlamentare, guidata dal comandante Oliver Cromwell sconfigge le truppe di Carlo I.
