Trama
Il maggiore dell'aeronautica Lloyd Gruver (Marlon Brando) viene riassegnato a una base aerea giapponese. Malgrado l'opposizione delle autorità americane, l'aviere Kelly (Red Buttons), appartenente al reparto comandato da Gruver, s'innamora di una giapponese e la sposa. Alcuni giorni dopo il maggiore, che ha fatto da testimone a Kelly, fa la conoscenza di Hana-Ogi (Miiko Taka), una bella danzatrice giapponese, e se ne innamora a sua volta. Tuttavia, la loro unione verrà messa a dura prova dalle rispettive culture e dai pregiudizzi razziali.
