Trama
Pete Kelly dirige un'orchestra jazz in un locale di quart'ordine sperando sempre nell'occasione buona per compiere il salto di qualità. Quando questa si presenta, la festa è rovinata dal bandito McCarg che chiede a Kelly un "pizzo" su ogni contratto della band. Dopo lunghe riflessioni Kelly rifiuta, spalleggiato anche da Joey, il batterista che però viene ucciso per vendetta.
