Trama
Il professor Sharpley, da tempo impegnato in un progetto di sperimentazione sulla deprivazione sensoriale, si suicida gettandosi sotto un treno. Indagando sulla morte, la polizia sospetta che Sharpley abbia passato delle informazioni segrete ai comunisti ma, per difendere il nome del collega, il dottor Henry Longman (Dirk Bogarde) è pronto a dimostrare che il suicidio è stata una conseguenza del programma a cui Sharpley stava lavorando. Per farlo, Henry si sottopone volontariamente a un lavaggio del cervello che lo porterà a dimenticarsi dell'amore per la moglie Oonagh.
