Vincent Bruce, un veterano di guerra, inizia a lavorare come terapista occupazionale a Poplar Lodge, una struttura psichiatrica privata per ricchi, dove incontra Lilith Arthur, una giovane donna affascinante che soffre di schizofrenia, la cui fragile bellezza affascina tutti coloro che la incontrano.
