Trama
Il 6 giugno 1944 il cap. John Miller sbarca con i suoi uomini a Omaha Beach. È un massacro sotto il micidiale fuoco tedesco. Il generale George Marshall (Presnell), comandante supremo dell'armata angloamericana, apprende che la famiglia Ryan dell'Iowa ha già perduto tre figli e che un quarto fratello, James Francis Ryan, è stato paracadutato in Normandia oltre le linee nemiche. Dà ordine che sia ritrovato e rimandato a casa. L'incarico è affidato al cap. Miller che, con sei uomini e un interprete, parte alla sua ricerca.
