Trama
Nel 2029 Leo Davidson, uno dei componenti umani dell'equipaggio, viene risucchiato in un vortice spazio-temporale e finisce con il precipitare con la sua navicella su un pianeta in cui le scimmie parlano e dominano gli uomini che sono in loro totale balia. Le sue sole speranze risiedono nella simpatia che la scienziata Ari ha per i sottomessi. Davidson si mette così a capo di un gruppo di fuggiaschi che vengono implacabilmente braccati dalle truppe guidate dal generale Thade e dal suo braccio destro Attar.
