Trama
Durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale, per uno stupido puntiglio, un generale francese ordina un attacco a una postazione tedesca praticamente inespugnabile. Il colonnello Dax, ufficiale coraggioso e onesto, capisce la follia dell'ordine e cerca di evitare la carneficina, ma, di fronte all'ottusità dei suoi superiori, è costretto a eseguire i comandi. L'assalto, naturalmente, fallisce, ma non è tutto: il tronfio generale fa fucilare tre soldati per vigliaccheria.
