Trama
Eddie è un giocatore di biliardo giovane e ambizioso. Riesce a sfidare il grande Minnesota Fats, ma perde. È necessario un lungo e poco onorevole tirocinio nel giro delle scommesse prima di poter rinnovare la sfida. Questa scelta però lo porta a trascurare i sentimenti di Sara. Dopo avere finalmente battuto "il migliore", Eddie prende coscienza di quanto sia caduto in basso per raggiungere il suo scopo.
