Trama
Siamo nel 1946. Processato per l'omicidio della moglie e del suo amante, Andy, un bancario del New England, viene condannato a un doppio ergastolo e recluso nel penitenziario di Shawshank. All'inizio è vittima delle violenze dei reclusi, poi però diventa il consulente finanziario delle guardie. Scopre così che il direttore falsifica i libri contabili intestando i conti a un fittizio Randall Stevens. Fuggito di prigione attraverso un tunnel costruito negli anni, Andy assume l'identità di Randall Stevens, denuncia il direttore e va in Messico.
