Trama
Il famoso scrittore di libri horror Mike Enslin (John Cusack) crede solo in ciò che può vedere con i propri occhi. Dopo una serie di bestseller che screditano gli eventi paranormali avvenuti nelle case infestate dai fantasmi e nei cimiteri più famosi del mondo, non ha nessuna prova concreta di una vita dopo la morte. La serie di lunghe notti solitarie senza fantasmi di Mike, tuttavia, è destinata a cambiare quando entra nella stanza 1408 del famigerato Dolphin Hotel per il suo ultimo progetto, “Dieci Notti nelle Camere d’Albergo Infestate dai Fantasmi.” Sfidando gli avvertimenti del direttore dell’albergo (Samuel L. Jackson), decide di pernottare – il primo dopo anni - proprio nella stanza che tutti considerano infestata, nella speranza che possa essere l’inizio di un nuovo bestseller. Come molti degli eroi di Stephen King, Mike dovrà affrontare i suoi demoni, passando da scettico a credente, prima di superare la notte...
